Spending Less Time with Family to Focus on Your Wellbeing
Updated: Dec 8, 2020
Your wellbeing, physical and mental, is important. You can’t take care of others if you don’t first take care of yourself. Right now, you feel that you need a little more time to take care of your well-being and a little less time with your family. This can take a lot of forms. It can be dedicating more time to exercise, hobbies, or activities that relax you and give you a break from the hectic chaos that life tends to be.
Authentic Communication
Now that you have a direction to go in, it’s time to tell people what you’re doing! Communicate your shift to everyone you trust that will be affected by them, your family, friends, team, boss, etc. Work with them to put an actionable plan together that can help you achieve your goals. Not only will this let people know what you are trying to accomplish, but they can help hold you accountable when you waver.
Dividing Responsibilities
As you’re making your shift to spend more time taking care of your wellbeing, remember that doing all this doesn’t mean that you can keep or increase your responsibilities. Make sure that you are splitting up your responsibilities at home. Perhaps you wash up after meals and your partner cooks. Or you clean up the kitchen while your partner helps the kids with their homework. The idea is to use your support network to help take the load off where it is too heavy or isn’t wanted so you can focus where you would like to be.
